Seeking out for Government Help and Support in Agriculture

Government of Nepal has been focusing in developing agricultural sector. Commercialization of agriculture is the main focus of the government at present. However, the implementation has not become as effective as it should have been. For this partly the government is responsible, but to a greater extent we ourselves are responsible.

The problems of governmental inefficiency are beyond our control and therefore we cannot change them. However, we can change ourselves. We can try whatever is possible from our own efforts and initiations. We rather should try! In this post, I’ll describe what kinds of help and support we can seek out from the government’s administrative bodies like District Agriculture Office, District Forest Office, Resource Centers, and so on, which are located in every district.

Consultation Service

Information is a backbone or foundation of any businesses. Businesses begin with an idea and information is the raw material to form and develop ideas. Therefore, it is vital to have great deal of information to generate business ideas.

I have had positive experience during my visit to District Forest Office and District Agriculture Office. The officials provided me with realistic information related to agriculture. It would be your foolishness to expect that they know everything. It is your duty to research upon the economic activity or business you want to begin and find the information you want to know. If they had all the knowledge to start an agribusiness then they would themselves have started it. However, paying visit to their offices can be a significant step in your research work to collect the necessary information you need to know about the prospective business.

Technical support

The District Agriculture Office provides certain technical services and support for free. Such support includes soil testing, subsidized seeds and fertilizers, and other assistance in setting up your business. Although, getting such services can take some time, they might be crucial for you to reduce your cost. However, because of time constraints and so on, you should seek such services well ahead of time. For example, the soil test report is available within a period of 1 month. So, if you want to conduct the test then you should contact the office one or two months in advance.

Provision for Subsidy

Depending upon the program and policies of the current government the agriculture office provides subsidy on certain agricultural activities. The agricultural business like fish farming, silk farming, etc had provision for subsidy during 2069 BS. However, depending upon the focus of the government such policies can change from time to time. Therefore, getting the latest and location based information is more appropriate in such cases.

Free Plants at District Forest Office

In the District Forest Office, you can get various plants like lemon, bamboo, chiuree, jackfruit, koiralo, etc for free. The quality of such plants in terms of their species and their commercial value is not known, even to the officials who dispense such plants. However, the important thing is that such services are available and you can take the advantage of them if appropriate and necessary for you.

Conclusion

You often have to fight, in order to get your rights. Seeking them out, is not a big deal altogether.
